County Finals: High 5 Netball 2015.
A team of 9 Year 6 netballers represented the Boston area together with St Mary’s primary school. There were 16 teams altogether, two from each region. They were split into three leagues, two 5s and one 6.
We were in league two facing Malcom Sargent, William Alvey, Woodhall Spa and Baston. While St Mary’s were in league one and faced with Parish Church, Grantham Prep, Bourne Abbey, Manor Leas and North Cockerington.
Our first game we played Woodhall Spa and though we had the ball in our possession for much of the game and scored first, Woodhall Spa managed to equalise and pop in the winning goal on the final whistle. 2-1 to Woodhall Spa.
Game two saw us face Baston. This was a very positive game in which we won with a 5-1 win. After lunch we played William Alvey. Again another good game and again another game where the goals just didn’t go our way. The result was 2-3 to them. In our final game against Malcolm Sargent we started very positive scoring the first goal. They equalised and we went onto score again. For much of the game we again had possession of the ball, but again the goals just didn’t happen! Gracie had the opportunity to have one last shot at goal but the final whistle had gone just before she had set herself up to shoot. So the result was a draw 2-2. But maybe…?
This saw us finish 5th in our league. Our final position in the entire competition isn’t yet known. St Mary’s too came 5th in their league.
The top two from each league went onto play for the top 6 positions. Grantham Prep played St. Botolphs, Ermine played Woodhall Spa and Bourne Abbey played Malcolm Sargent. The final results were: 6th Malcolm Sargent, 5th Bourne Abbey, 4th Woodhall Spa, 3rd Ermine, 2nd Grantham Prep and in 1st place St Botolphs.
Well done to all the players. Thank you to our supporter: Mr Bainbridge! We were disappointed that we didn’t perform as well as we can and score more goals, but… it was a great day of competition and a super experience to playing with the very best teams from Lincolnshire!
