Girls' 5-a-side Football Tournament 2014

Boston Sports Partnership:

Girls’ 5-a-side Football Tournament 2014.

On Friday 5th December thirteen keen teams met up at Kirton Middlecott Secondary School.

They were split into three groups. Our group (Group 1) consisted of Kirton, Gosberton, Frithville/New Yorkand Wyberton. Group 2 were made up of Carlton Road, Hawthorn Tree, Butterwick and St Thomas’. That left Park, Staniland, Old Leake and St Nicholas to form Group 3.

In the first round each team played everyone in their group in a round robin.

In our first game against Frithville/New York, Gracie and Szonija both scored to result in a 2-0 win.

In the next game against Kirton Gracie scored both goals with a result of 2-0 again. In the game against Wyberton Iris scored, Felicity scored 2 goals and Cerys scored one goal, thus resulting in a 4-0 win. In the final game Gracie scored both goals with one being from a penalty. Well done to all!

In the next round Tower Road progressed to play against Staniland in the semi-finals (winners of Group 3).After a very tough game Gracie finally scored from a penalty, incurred by a Staniland player hand balled the ball. The final result was 1-0. Tower Road then went on to play Carlton Road in the final. After a full time score of 0-0 which meant that the Golden Ball came into play. Again after neither side scoring, and time was moving on, it was agreed that the winner would be decided by a sudden death penalty shoot-out! Tension!

Charlton Road went first but their penalty kick was saved by Talia. Next stepped up Gracie and her kick resulted in a win for Tower Road! They were thrilled!!

All the girls played well and were a true credit to Tower Road with their behaviour and excellent sportsmanship.

An extra well done to Talia (our super goalie) who did not let in a single goal throughout the whole tournament.

The results were 1st place Tower Road, 2nd Carlton Road, =3rd Staniland and Hawthorn Tree, =5th Kirton, Firthville/New York, Old Leake & St Nicholas, =9th Gosberton and St Thomas’, =11th Wyberton, Butterwick & Park.

Well done to Staniland for winning the Fair Play trophy.

Tower Road now go onto represent the Boston area in the County finals at Carres, Sleaford in January. For the first time in our memories!!

Well done to all the girls and thank you for the referees and the supporters.
