Tower Road’s Girls’ Footballers give a proud performance

in the Girls’ Football Tournament!

Eight Tower Road girls ventured off the Thomas Middlecott Academy to take part in a highly competitive girls’ football tournament. Sixteen teams were entered, which were separated into 3 different groups. Tower Road was placed in a group alongside Butterwick B, Frithville/ New York and Gosberton. Some games were played outside and some inside, with each team given the chance to experience both surfaces. Our first game was played outdoors against Gosberton, which Tower Road won comfortably 2-0. The second game was against Frithville/ New York, indoors, which Tower Road won AGAIN 2-1. The final game of the group was against Butterwick B outside which Tower Road also won 1-0, meaning the girls had a 100% win record and were going through to the knock out stages. Tower Road would then face Butterwick A in the semi-finals, but unfortunately we lost 2-0 to the eventual winners of the tournament. Tower Road were then placed in a 3rd and 4th place play off against Swineshead. The game was very tight and went all the way to      5 seconds left of play where Tower Road scored to win 1-0. Meaning the top 4 finished as:

1st Butterwick A

2nd  Carlton Road

3rd Tower Road

4th Swineshead

Our thanks go to the organisers of the tournament and all the student referees for volunteering and giving up their own time.
