MFL at Tower Road Academy
At Tower Road Academy, we aim to provide all of our KS2 children with a high-quality education in Modern Foreign Languages (MFL). Learning a foreign language is a necessary part of being a member of a multi-cultural society and provides an opening to understanding other cultures. Language education should foster children's curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world, providing a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for our pupils. We believe that learning another language gives children a new and broader perspective on the world as well as supporting our work on British values.
In addition to teaching French in our MFL lessons, we also strive to provide children with opportunities to experience a range of other languages by celebrating the diversity of languages and cultures in our school community. We hope to foster curiosity and confidence to explore other countries, cultures and languages, accepting that, in a multi-lingual society, it is a valuable skill to be able to communicate effectively with others in another language. They will be prepared to continue language learning at Secondary School, having an understanding that this can equip them to study and work in other countries in the future.
