Rounders’ Tournament at Giles Academy
Thursday 21st May, saw the annual Boston Schools’ Rounders’ Tournament at Giles Academy, Old Leake. The sun shone and the rain held off which was especially welcomed after such a wet week.
Thirteen teams had entered and were split into three groups. We were in Group 3, together with Carlton Roan, St. Nicholas and New York. Our first match against St Nicholas, we fielded first and resulted in a win of 81/2 rounders to 4. Our second match against New York resulted in a win of 8 to 1 rounder. In our third game against Charlton Road we again won, 6-1.
Lunch break followed. After lunch the semi-finals took place. We faced Old Leake (who were the Best Placed Runner up) while St Marys’ (winners of Group 2) faced St Thomas’ (winners of Group 1).
In the first semi-final St Thomas’ beat St Marys’ and in our semi-final we beat Old Leake 6 -5.T
his meant we faced St Thomas’ in the final. We won the toss and fielded first. It was a very exciting and equally matched game. Good batting and catching on both sides, but in the end St Thomas’ took the win 5- 21/2. In the 3rdand 4th play offs- Old Leake beat St Mary’s.
It was a very exciting day. The team’s play improved enormously over the day. They played as a team, backing each other up, talking to each other and sporting each other. Well done to the team and well done to all the other players.
Many thanks to our supporters, it does make a difference to have you.
Many thanks to Giles Academy for hosting the event, especially to Mrs Singleton and to Mr Haslam, as well as to the Giles umpires.
