Sainsbury School Games Silver Mark 2014

Sainsbury’s Schools Games Mark

On Thursday November 20th, Matt Halsam, (Boston and District School Sports Partnership Organiser), presented to this year’s Sports Ambassadors the Silver school games award, during Key Stage Assembly. This award was in recognition of the sporting achievements made by the school in the last academic year (2013-14).

Last year saw the school take part in many of the locally organised Sports Partnership events, as well as organising several ourselves eg Woodthorpe Cup (football), Cross Country and athletics. There were many successes which saw the teams involved wining through to County finals eg Tag rugby, swimming, netball, tennis, sports hall athletics and rounders. Out of these the Year 3/4 swimming and Tennis teams brought home respective Gold Cups and the Year 5 cricket team as well.

Within school 97% of Key Stage 2 children took the opportunity to join one of the many clubs that the staff run either before school, lunch time or after school. Generally there are about 38 clubs on offer each term as well as a Golf Club (which is the only club not run by a staff member!)

During the year, four keen sports students were selected to be the school’s first Sports Ambassadors. They were fundamental in assisting the running of some sports clubs and in umpiring netball games. Their opinions were sourced in helping to develop sports.

It is hoped we can continue to build on our successes this year and with a new team of eight Sports Ambassadors we can find new ways of involving others in sports!
