Volleyball Development Day and Tournament.
This year’s Volleyball development day and tournament took place on Thursday 16thApril at Giles Academy, Old Leake. It was good to see so many schools taking part and for each school there were eight eager pupils raring to go.
The first part of the morning was skills based. The players were split into four stations which were manned by Giles Sports Students. The players were coached by the students in volleying the ball, digging the ball, serving and passing. The atmosphere was super with the sound of volleyballs being bounced and caught…
Then at 11am after a demonstration from the Giles students, the tournament started!
There were ten schools each with an A team and a B team. These were then divided into four leagues, two A leagues and two B leagues.
Tower Road B got off to a good start winning their first games against Hawthorn Tree 8-7. While Tower Road A cheered them on. Then Tower Road A played their first game against Hawthorn Tree, with a winning result of 11-7 and Tower Road B cheered them on…
Both teams had a rest before both playing against Kirton. Again resulted in wins for both teams, 21-4 for Tower Road A. Tower Road B watched Tower Road A’s game against Staniland, which resulted in a win of 13-5. Then both teams played their next game. Tower Road A faced Park and finished in a win 16-5, as Tower Road B faced Staniland and resulted in a win of 17-2. Tower Road A then watched Tower Road B play their last game and it ended 9-6 to Tower Road B against Park.
In the end both teams had won all their games and went on to face the winners of the other leagues.
In the final of the A leagues Tower Road faced Frithville/New York which ended 14-5 to Tower Road. Meanwhile in the B league final, Tower Road faced Wyberton, end result was 16-4 to Tower Road.
Both teams went home winners but it is the A team that will go on to represent the Boston area at the County finals on April 27th at Cherry Willingham.
Many thanks to Giles Academy and Mrs Singleton for hosting the event and providing the students to support, coach and ref the morning and the games. Thank you to Eli’s grandparents for coming to support the teams.
