Dear Parents/Carers,

1. HELLO!

I hope you all had a wonderful break over the Easter holidays and enjoyed the sunshine.

I am pleased to be writing to you all in my first bulletin as Headteacher of Tower Road Academy. Having worked at the school for nearly fifteen years, it is an honour to step into this role and continue to work in a school that means so much to me. I’ve had the pleasure of working with so many children and families from the school’s community over the years, and I am looking forward to building upon what is already a fantastic place for children to come to school.

The focus on the school remains the same: to ensure every child feels safe, inspired and supported to thrive academically and personally. I am proud to be leading an excellent team of staff who work relentlessly to give the children the best opportunities and education we can.

I am also delighted to welcome Mr Whiteway, the school’s new Deputy Headteacher, to the team this week. He has many years’ experience as a teacher and school leader, a clear passion for education and a commitment to working closely with staff, families and pupils. I am confident he will be a fantastic addition to our leadership team. He is very musical too so we’re hoping he’ll play his guitar for us in assembly soon!

Mr Whiteway and I will be on one of the playgrounds most mornings so don’t hesitate if you need to ask us anything or just want to say, “Hello!”

Thank you for your continued support – here’s to a fantastic summer term!

2. CHANGE OF SPORTS DAY DATE

The EYFS/Y1/Y2 Sports Day and Y3/Y4 Sports Day will now be held on Thursday 22 May 2025. If heavy rain is forecast, we may be forced to cancel and re-arrange for another date.

To confirm

  • Wednesday 21 May, 1:15pm – 3:00pm, Y5/Y6 Sports Day
  • Thursday 22 May, 9.30am – 11.30am, EYFS/Y1/Y2 Sports Day
  • Thursday 22 May, 1.15pm – 3.00pm, Y3/Y4 Sports Day

3. AFTER-SCHOOL CLUBS START NEXT WEEK

After-school clubs start this Monday 28 April. Please make sure your child has the correct equipment/kit with them.

Clubs finish at 4:15pm. All children will be collected from the main playground, not the EYFS/Y1 playground.

4. MCAS (My Child At School)

Don’t forget to download the MCAS app and enable push notifications. We are still in the process of transferring data and contents, so you won’t be able to use it yet. We hope to launch it towards the end of May.

5. NO NUTS PLEASE

Some pupils have been bringing in items for lunch which contain hazelnut chocolate spread, such as Nutella (or similar). Please do not send these items into school as we have several severe nut allergies in school.

6. CREATIVE PLAYTIMES

Children in EYFS and Year 1 have really enjoyed the opportunities for creative and imaginative play at lunchtimes this week. They have been dressing up, building train tracks and stacking crates and tyres into dens.

Thank you for your donations before Easter to make this happen. We still need your donations so have a good dig around at home and if you can donate any of the items on the attached list, we’d be very grateful for it. Please hand items over to an adult on duty in the morning. We are looking to extend the opportunities for creative play to Year 2 to Year 6 in the coming months, but we need lots more resources before we can!

7. FLYERS

Attached is a flyer from Boston Youth Centre who are offering evening activities every Tuesday 5pm to 6.30pm for children aged 8 to 12. Also attached is information about a mental health support event from Lincolnshire Housing Partnership (LHP). This is for tenants in LHP homes.

8. ATTENDANCE

As we begin the summer term, we would like to remind you of the importance of regular school attendance. The summer term is packed full with lots of exciting learning opportunities, and missing just a couple of days can impact children’s ability to stay on track. We kindly ask that you make every effort to ensure your child’s attends school every day, arrives on time and is ready to learn.

We enter the final round of the league tables for this year. After the first week, the results are as follows:

JOINT 1ST PLACE – Mr Reed’s class and Mrs Webb/Mrs Bashford’s class. Both classes have 100% attendance so far! Let’s see if they can do another week…!

JOINT 3RD PLACE – Mrs Batterham, Miss Clarke/Mrs Andrew’s class and Miss Boyfield’s class. All three classes have achieved 98.1%.

Thank you for your continued support of the school. Have a great weekend.

Regards,

Mrs Smith
Headteacher
