1. THIS WEEK

We’ve been celebrating British Science Week this week with a wide range of fun science activities and investigations.

Yesterday, a group of pupils from Boston High School came to talk about their experiences of science at secondary school and the jobs they were considering, including few ex-Tower Road pupils.

We have also had a few parents into school to share stories of their jobs and how they link to science. Mrs Adams’ class had a fascinating visit from a parent who works at the hospital.  She very kindly made up some samples of body fluids for the children to look at (not real samples!) and spoke about how illnesses can be identified through these. The children loved seeing how science fits into different areas of life.

SPORTS NEWS

Cross Country WINNERS!  Our Y5/6 cross country teams went to Kirton Middlecott on Tuesday.  The girls team won first place and the boys team took second. Individuals did brilliantly, particularly Mila who won the race by quite some distance.

Y6 Netball            Girls Cross Country Team     Boys Cross Country Team

Netball WINNERS!  Our Y6 team have qualified for the Lincolnshire County Cup! Well done to the team who played in the Boston schools tournament last night at Peter Paine. They won all their matches and didn’t concede one goal!

2. SAFETY WHEN WALKING HOME

We have received notification from a school in Boston about an incident where a member of the public reportedly approached a Year 6 pupil at the end of the school day and offered their hand to them. The school involved has spoken with the police, and we have not received any direct concerns or alerts from the police relating to our school.

At Tower Road, we have talked with children about ways to stay safe when walking home or playing outside.

  • Children should avoid walking home in the dark.
  • Children should walk home with friends where possible.
  • They should not go with or speak to strangers.
  • If someone approaches them and they feel uncomfortable, they should move away quickly and go to a safe place (e.g. a shop or a trusted adult).
  • They should tell a trusted adult as soon as possible.

2. PRIOR NOTICE OF EID

If you are celebrating Eid next week and plan to take your child out of school, please let the office know via email (attendance@tr.keystonemat.org) or MCAS.

3. WHATS APP SAFETY POSTER

Please see the attached Whats App guidance for group chats from the Lincolnshire Stay Safe Partnership.

4. ELITE SPORTS EASTER HOLIDAY CAMPS

Attached are a series of posters for Elite Sports Easter holiday camps.

5. LAST CHANCE TO SIGN UP FOR THE SEND COFFEE EVENT

Next Friday 20 March from 2:00 - 3.00pm is our next SEND coffee event. There will be an overview of the SUMO parenting programme we are hosting after Easter (see details below). It will involve question and answer time, and a member of the SEND team will also be available during the event. Refreshments, cake and biscuits will be provided. Please contact the office if you would like to attend.

6. FREE PARENTING WORKSHOPS

We are hosting a free parenting course from 1.00 – 3.00pm on the following dates:

  • Friday 24 April
  • Friday 1 May
  • Friday 8 May
  • and Friday 15 May.

The course is called SUMO – Stop. Understand. Move On.  We have hosted the same course already and it was very well received by the many parents that attended.

The course is not run by teachers but by experienced parents who have children themselves that have displayed tricky behaviour.  The sessions help parents to understand different types of behaviour and how best to manage it.  If you’re interested, contact the office or speak to Miss Oglesbee on the gate and we’ll put your name down.
