At Tower Road Academy, pupils in EYFS and KS1 are taught to spell as part of the Read, Write, Inc. Phonics programme. 

Pupils in Year 2 - 6 who have completed the Read, Write, Inc. Phonics programme, are taught the Read, Write, Inc. Spelling programme. Spelling is taught cumulatively and systematically, with deliberate, focused practice. The programme builds upon teaching strategies and spelling activities from the Read, Write, Inc. Phonics programme. Spelling is delivered daily, alongside writing practice.  Pupils are expected to practise spelling lists as part of homework, to help embed spellings into the long-term memory.
